Mikhaïl BEZVERKHNY
[Back]Mikhaïl Bezverkhny was born in St Petersburg in 1947. He commenced violin studies at the age of 5 at the Central Conservatory of Leningrad, under the guidance of Liubov Segal, who himself was a student of Leopold Auer and Jacob Riabinkov. In 1965 he pursued his studies at the Moscow Conservatory with Yuri Yankelevitch and at the same time with Maya Gleyzarova, Atram Stern and Nahum Latinsky. He is laureate of many international competitions : 1967, second prize at the Wieniawski Competition in Poznan, 1969, second prize for Chamber Music Ensembles (trio) in Munich ; 1972, second prize at the Montreal Competition and first prize for Chamber Music Ensembles in Belgrade ; 1976, Grand Prix of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.
Beginning 1978, he was forbidden to leave the U.S.S.R., but nevertheless continued an active concert schedule. In 1990, accompanied by his wife and son, he took up residence in Belgium. Since october 1992, Mr Bezverkhny has been a member of the Shostakovich Trio, and his recordings for « Melodya » and « Deutsche Grammophon » now number more than twenty.
